Färdknäppen, a co-housing community, was planned by a group of future tenants in collaboration with architect Jan Lundquist and AB Familjebostäder. We moved in 1993. The building houses 43 apartments, ranging from one to three rooms, with well-designed communal areas. The apartments are standard, featuring kitchens and bathrooms, but when they were built, they were smaller than the typical homes of that time. Instead, we allocated 10% of the space to shared areas.

The communal spaces are designed to foster connection and community. They are flexible and feature glass windows facing the common areas. On the ground floor, there are 234 square meters of shared spaces, including an entrance hall, a 54-square-meter kitchen, a 56-square-meter dining room, and a 45-square-meter common room, along with a hobby room, computer room, textile room, and WC (the waste room, bicycle storage, corridors, laundry room, and ironing/textile room are not included in the total area).

Additionally, there is a tenant lounge with a kitchenette and fireplace (about 15 square meters), three guest rooms, and a 13-square-meter office, totaling 310 square meters. In the basement, there are 49 square meters of communal space, including two food storage rooms (cool and dry), a music room, bathroom, sauna with WC, and exercise room. There are also two additional communal storage rooms (for everything from Christmas tree stands to extra beds and toilet paper), an archive, and a bicycle room.

The courtyard features covered bicycle parking, a garden shed, a boule court, seating areas, flower beds, herb planters, and a lawn. The south-facing courtyard is a major asset and was especially valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the top of the building, outside the tenant lounge, there is a large rooftop terrace with seating, sun loungers, flower pots, and a small storage room.

We offer information about the house and guided tours through the shared areas. Visitors can also buy coffee and homemade buns, get information about co-housing, and chat with the residents.
