A silent dérive walk in Vasastan
A dérive walk / workshop can be seen as a playful experience of exploring a city.
No useful facts or promised viewpoints, but a new way of wandering around the city, following the urban fabric itself.
The dérive walk will start by a quick introduction to the tool of discovering the authentic, more profound life of the city, as put by Sadler (1998). Three roles (leader, follower and observer) which every attendee experiences during the walk will be explained.
After the intro, a city drifting will begin, in-keeping with the ‘playful-constructive’ approach (Debord, 1956) of moving through the urban fabric. Spontaneity and chance take priority in the dérive, hence the end point of the walk is open and would depend on the path a group decides to take. Everything what is expected from the participants is to be open for reaching new conclusions on the city they might know from before or encounter for the first time. We will start from Vasaparken's Yoga Pavilion and walk in the direction in which the city will bring us.
I will come back to the starting point after the dérive so you are welcome to follow back to the starting point or move on from the point where we end up in your own direction.
