CITY OF STOCKHOLM
NORRA DJURGÅRDSSTADEN

Norra Djurgårdsstaden is one of Europe's largest urban development areas. The plan includes at least 12,000 new residential units and 35,000 new jobs. It is one of the city's designated sustainability-focused areas.

Norra Djurgårdsstaden stretches from Husarviken and Hjorthagen in the north to Värtahamnen and Loudden in the south. The development largely takes place on former sites used for port operations, gas production, and other industrial activities.

Guided Tour of the Gasworks

After over a hundred years of industrial activity, gas production in Hjorthagen ceased in January 2011. The transformation of the gasworks from an industrial site to a central environment with services and culture is a key part of the development of Norra Djurgårdsstaden.

Watch the clip below for a tour of the Eastern Gasworks.

Sustainability-Focused

In 2009, the Stockholm City Council decided that Norra Djurgårdsstaden should be a sustainability-focused area, with a mandate to explore current possibilities and push boundaries where feasible, to set an example in sustainable urban development.

On this page, norradjurgardsstaden2030.se, you can follow the project's sustainability efforts, access data, learn about our work, and view all documentation including programs and previous sustainability reports.
